Now that I am creating cyanotypes (an early form of photography in which your art develops outside in the sun) I eagerly await the return of the light in the spring and summer. Each night I prepare my papers and in the morning I gather flowers and leaves from my garden and lay them in a pleasing composition. I spray the paper with water, add soap suds and some spices, maybe some colored inks and set them out in the sun, sometimes for a couple of hours, sometimes all day. When at the end of the day, I rinse the papers what is revealed is always new and surprising. Then maybe I touch the art up with some gold paint or gold leaf for that extra special glitter.
